Last week, our team had the pleasure of spending the day at Sobeys Glen Abbey in Oakville, connecting with shoppers, sharing stories, and showcasing something we’re incredibly proud of, our collaboration with Jakeman’s Maple Syrup. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., we welcomed customers, offered samples, and introduced a fresh new recipe that quickly became the star of the day: our Carrot & Parsnip Maple Slaw. Light, vibrant, and naturally sweetened with pure maple syrup, it sparked conversations, inspiration, and plenty of “I need to try this at home” moments.
There’s something special about meeting people face to face, hearing what they love to cook, and showing them how simple ingredients, grown and crafted right here in Ontario, can transform everyday meals; Sobeys Glen Abbey provided the perfect setting for that connection.

A Partnership Rooted in Tradition, Quality, and Real Food
Our collaboration with Jakeman’s Maple Syrup is more than a product pairing, it’s a celebration of shared values. Both of our families have spent generations growing, harvesting, and crafting foods that Canadians trust. Gwillimdale Farms is a fifth‑generation, family‑owned farm dedicated to growing high‑quality root vegetables. Jakeman’s, also a multigenerational Ontario family business, has been producing award‑winning maple syrup since 1876.
Together, we’re bringing forward something simple and meaningful: real food made by real families, rooted in heritage, sustainability, and a deep respect for the land.
This partnership is part of our special Valentine’s campaign, highlighting how beautifully maple syrup complements root vegetables. Maple syrup enhances the natural sugars in carrots, parsnips, and beets, creating a glossy, golden finish that feels both comforting and elevated. Whether you’re roasting vegetables for a cozy dinner or tossing together a fresh slaw like the one we shared at Sobeys, the combination is effortless and delicious.
The Natural Energy Duo: Maple Syrup + Root Vegetables
What makes this pairing so powerful isn’t just the flavour, it’s the nutrition.
Pure maple syrup is more than a sweetener. It contains minerals, antioxidants, and naturally occurring compounds that make it a smarter choice than refined sugar. With a lower glycemic index and minimal processing, it offers steady, natural energy.
Root vegetables, meanwhile, are nutrient powerhouses. They’re rich in fibre, antioxidants, and immune‑supporting vitamins; exactly the kind of whole‑food nourishment that fuels busy families.
Together, they create a wholesome, flavour‑forward combination that supports wellness while satisfying your sweet tooth. It’s real food doing what real food does best.
Proud to Partner with Sobeys: Canada’s Family Grocery Store
We also want to shine a spotlight on our long‑standing relationship with Sobeys, a retailer that shares our commitment to quality and Canadian-grown food. As a proudly Canadian grocery store since 1907, Sobeys continues to invest in homegrown businesses and strengthen domestic supply chains. Their dedication ensures that families across the country have access to the best locally sourced products, including ours.
You can find Gwillimdale Farms root vegetables and Jakeman’s Maple Syrup at Sobeys locations throughout Canada, as well as at Metro and Food Basics. We’re proud to be part of Sobeys’ shelves from coast to coast, and even prouder to know that our produce is helping Canadians cook, nourish, and enjoy moments together.
Looking Ahead
Our day at Sobeys Glen Abbey reminded us why we do what we do. Food brings people together. It inspires creativity. It fuels families. And when it’s grown and crafted with care, it makes every meal feel a little more meaningful.
We’re grateful to Jakeman’s for joining us in this collaboration, to Sobeys for their continued partnership, and to every customer who stopped by to chat, taste, and share their stories.
Here’s to more good food, more community, and more moments made sweeter, naturally.
