At Gwillimdale Farms, community is at the core of our mission. We’re proud to highlight our ongoing project, the Bradford Community Fridge. Fully built and funded by us, this initiative reflects our dedication to giving back and supporting our neighbors in Bradford.

The Bradford Community Fridge is more than just a food resource; it’s a symbol of our commitment to ensuring that everyone in Bradford has access to fresh, nutritious produce. Located at the Bradford Library (425 Holland St W, Bradford, ON L3Z 0J2), the fridge is available around the clock. Our motto, “Take what you need, leave what you can,” embodies the spirit of sharing and community support that we cherish.

In addition to providing essential nourishment, the fridge also helps reduce food waste. We accept grade 2 products—those that may not meet store standards but are still perfectly good and full of nutrients. By repurposing these items, we’re not only supporting a more sustainable food system but also making sure that no good food goes to waste.

Keeping the fridge clean and safe is very important to us. Thanks to our amazing community volunteers, the fridge is cleaned daily and checked twice a day to make sure the food stays fresh and safe. Our volunteers also help monitor the fridge’s temperature and ensure everything is in good condition. We’ve set clear donation guidelines to maintain high safety standards and ask everyone to follow these practices. We’re grateful to our volunteers for their hard work and dedication in keeping the fridge a reliable resource for the community. Their efforts help ensure that everyone can benefit from fresh, healthy food.

Building and maintaining the Bradford Community Fridge is a special way for us to give back to the Bradford community that we care so much about. Each week, we donate a variety of our root vegetables to keep the fridge full and offer fresh, nutritious options for everyone. This is our way of showing appreciation and support for our neighbors.

But our involvement goes beyond just providing Gwillimdale produce. We want to inspire a sense of community and encourage others to join in. By regularly contributing fresh produce and working with local volunteers, we help ensure the fridge stays a valuable resource for everyone who needs it.

Alexa Hambly shares: “At Gwillimdale Farms, community is at the heart of what we do. We’re very proud to support the Bradford Community Fridge because we believe everyone in Bradford should have access to healthy food. By providing our fresh vegetables, we’re helping to build a stronger, more connected community.”

This project is just one way we’re working to support and improve the lives of those around us. We hope our efforts will inspire others to give back and help create a more caring and connected community. Together, small acts of kindness can make a big difference for everyone.

The Bradford Community Fridge shows what we value at Gwillimdale Farms. By tackling food insecurity and encouraging sustainability, we hope to set a positive example for others. We believe that with a bit of community spirit and teamwork, we can make a real difference.

We encourage everyone in Bradford to check out the Community Fridge, share its purpose, and contribute if they can. Together, we can build a healthier and more caring community. We are proud to lead this effort and show that with unity and support, we can make a big impact. By getting involved with this project, we hope to inspire others to take similar steps in their own neighborhoods, proving that even small actions can lead to big changes. Our work with the Bradford Community Fridge is just one of the many ways we are trying to create a better future for everyone.
